HERD in partnership with IMC Worldwide and University of Portsmouth (UoP) in UK and the International Centre for Research on Women (ICRW) (US-based organisation) is conducting a research project to understand the complex and reciprocal relationship that Violence against Women (VAW) has with Women’s Economic Empowerment (WEE). This project aims to generate evidence that can enable better decision making in programme and policy design in relation to both VAW and economic development programmes and policies.
Objectives
- To understand the complex, reciprocal relationship that VAW has with WEE. This can be broken down as follows:
- To understand how normative violence currently shapes women’s economic engagement patterns, and to ascertain how best to address this;
- To uncover the complex ways in which earning or generating an income shapes/alters (both positively and negatively) the forms of violence that women experience, and how it affects their levels of vulnerability.
